JAKARTA - One of Toyota's most attention-grabbing models this year is Toyota Century. Introduced in early September, Century is currently being produced with full dedication at the Tahara factory, Aichi, Japan.

Similar to the luxury cars of its competitors, this vehicle was made very carefully by 40 skilled workers who were carefully selected from 1,500 employees. The selection process involves a strict test to ensure their skills and commitments.

Hiroki Tanaka, one of the elected workers, said that the assemblers had to go through a mandatory course and pass the certification exam to get a place on the team. This test consists of three important stages.

The test process includes an initial assessment of basic skills, written tests covering Century history, vehicle structures, and practical exams to demonstrate the ability to build a luxurious series.

"I learned a lot of new things, from the history of Toyota and Century to the unique and high-quality car fabrication technique. It was a very valuable experience," Tanaka said, quoted by Carscoops, Tuesday, November 28.

Tanaka himself is an experienced worker who has worked at Toyota since 2007 and graduated from Toyota's technical skills academy, using his years of experience to assemble Century components. This work is crucial because any error can have an impact on other parts of the vehicle.

In the assembly line, the workers are divided into four special teams: Trim, responsible for managing components such as instrument panels and roofs; Chassis, handling machine installations, suspensions, and PHEV battery integration; Final Assembly, handling chairs, doors, and windows; and finally Tuning/Fluids, overseeing tasks such as engine cooling fluid and brake systems.

Through the assembly and selection of rigorous workers, Toyota has succeeded in creating the latest generation Century as a luxury car with a modern touch on it.

This luxury car is equipped with a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) system with a 3.5 liter V6 engine, generating powerful performance while maintaining a sound rider suitable for Century. The PHEV system is designed to function as a BEV for daily use and as a HEV for long-distance travel. The machine collaborates with the e-CVT transmission developed by Toyota with an all-wheel drive system or E-Four Advanced.

The cars aimed at the royal family and conglomerates are valued at around 25 million yen, equivalent to IDR 2.6 billion in the Japanese market.
