JAKARTA - The legendary Italian car company, Bertone, has launched a new hypercar that is powered by fuel made of plastic waste.

The car called Bertone GB110 is just using 'Select Fuel', a patented method to convert waste polycarbonate materials, such as plastic bottles, into liquid fuel.

Bertone has not disclosed the price for the car, but says the car will be similar to artwork' which allows a series of modifications to suit unique tastes and identities.

In a limited edition only 33 vehicles have been launched to mark Bertone's 110th anniversary, but new cars will be delivered to customers as early as spring 2024.

Bertone has revealed the artistic rendering of the vehicle that exhibits its design, showing that the car itself is still combined.

"GB110 continues Bertone's automotive legacy and is a contemporary interpretation of Bertone's DNA," said project and design manager Giovanni Sapio, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

"This pays tribute to the design pioneers Bertone from the 50s and 70s, combining soft and round lines from the 50s with sharp edges in the style of the 70s," added Sapio.

Bertone was founded in 1912 by Italian car designer Giovanni Bertone, but the company went bankrupt in 2014. The company is well-known for its iconic design such as the sharp-angle 'Italy slice' form of Lamborghini Countach.

Earlier in 2022, Mauro and Jean-Franck Ricci's brothers obtained the right to the brand and revived it, starting with GB110 production.

They claim it was the first high-performance car to be supplied with fuel made of plastic waste.

We believe that de-polution will require a different solution with a combination of technologies, said Jean-Franck Ricci, CEO of Bertone. Plastic waste needs to be treated as a valuable resource.

"Through our partnership with Select Fuel, we took what was wasted and changed it back to its original form," he said.

Select Fuel uses a patented process that converts plastic that has been cleaned and cut into liquid fuel.

In addition to its unique source of power, this new vehicle also has other interesting features, as stated in the render.

According to the company, GB110 has a seven-speed gearbox and can travel from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.79 seconds and reaches a top speed of 236 miles per hour.

Like the classic Bertone model, its passy form provides advanced aerodynamics, allowing it to reach impressive speeds, although its sleek exterior suggests that the car is 'not just about power and raw performance'.

The car also has a pair of scissors, which rotate vertically on the hinges fixed at the front, not outside like a conventional door.

The company's website says it pays tribute to 'the pioneering Bertone design of the 50s and 70s and has been 'hated for a prominent presence indefinitely'.

For those interested in buying GB110, they may have to be lucky, considering that only 33 units will be produced.
