Sandiaga Uno Explains Reasons For Resigning From The Position Of Deputy Governor Of DKI Jakarta In Today's Memory, 27 August 2018

JAKARTA Memories of today, seven years ago, August 27, 2018, Sandiaga Uno explained his reason for wanting to resign from the position of Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta at the plenary session of the Jakarta DPRD. Sandiaga explained that his resignation was to avoid conflicts of interest.

Previously, Sandiaga Uno's wish to withdraw from the Deputy Governor was final. All because he chose to be the vice president of Prabowo Subianto in the 2019 presidential election. This condition shocked many parties who supported him.

Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno became Jakarta's new leaders since 2017. Their leadership was greeted with great fanfare. The people of Jakarta believe that all kinds of problems in Jakarta can be resolved. This task is certainly not easy.

It takes a high focus to be able to overcome the problem of traffic jams to flooding. However, not even a year after leading, the aroma of the 2019 presidential election began to emerge. Jokowi and Prabowo candidates began to look for their companions.

Anies-Sandi is on the radar. Both are considered to have high popularity. Prabowo then tried to propose to Anies. However, that wish did not materialize. Prabowo also asked Sandi to be his vice presidential candidate and succeed.

At its peak, Prabowo officially stated Sandi as his vice presidential candidate on August 9, 2018. The entire Indonesian people was excited. Even though Sandi's position as Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta was actually not disturbed. This condition is because there is an Election Law Number 7 of 2017 which is confirmed by Government Regulation Number 32 of 2018.

The legal product made the Governor or Deputy Governor who took part in the presidential election not have to resign. They only need permission to go to the president for leave during the political contestation. Sandi chose his own path.

He chose to resign. he sent his resignation letter on August 10, 2018. Or the day after being declared a vice presidential candidate. Sandi reasoned that leading Jakarta was a tough thing. Leaders need high focus and their jobs cannot be abandoned.

"I said that the philosophy cannot be carried out, this is a very tough task, DKI is tough, and if I stay in DKI, it will politicize DKI, it will not be fair for DKI. Pak Anies is already tough, and plus politicization it will be even more severe".

"If I am selfish, stay in DKI and try, I'm afraid I don't have a good message for the community. Not trying out, the national must be all out, whatever the result is. We have to be gentle for that," said Sandi as quoted on the detik.com page, 11 August 2018.

Sandi also made a resignation statement in a plenary meeting at the DKI Jakarta DPRD building on August 27, 2018. Sandi also explained Sandi's desire to resign rather than leave. Sandi revealed that he wanted to avoid conflicts of interest.

He did not want Sandi to be considered to have used his position to smooth his steps in the 2019 presidential election. He also wants the citizens of Jakarta to be well served. He did not want Jakarta's services to be disrupted because he decided to run in the 2019 presidential election with Prabowo.

"Considering how big the task of a Deputy Governor is. How difficult it is to work in Jakarta and avoid the risk of politicization of positions, keep away from the disadvantages of officials who intervene and abuse bureaucracy, budget, and facilities".

"So I choose to make sincere sacrifices not to take leave, and prioritize the interests of the citizens of Jakarta as well as the aspirations of the Indonesian people above the interests of themselves or groups. In this regard, my choice is to take an official stance to stop as Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Province for the 2017-2022 service period," Sandiaga said as quoted on the detik.com page, August 27, 2018.
