ASN Ministry of Religion respects the Red and White flag every 17th (ANTARA)

JAKARTA Memories of today, four years ago, June 17, 2021, the Minister of Religion (Menag), Yaqut Cholil Qoumas required his staff to honor the Red and White flag accompanied by the song Indonesia Raya every 17th. The effort was carried out as a form of love for the homeland.

Previously, Yaqut was considered by Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as an important figure for diversity guards in Indonesia. Yaqut was then appointed as the new Minister of Religion. The leader of the GP Ansor mass organization is believed to be able to bring fresh air to the lives of religious communities in Indonesia.

Support for the government is not only in the form of blind love. Yaqut revealed the narrative. The chairman of GP Ansor did fully support Jokowi's government. However, that doesn't mean he pretends he is not present when injustice occurs.

Yaqut is known to be active in criticizing when there is a policy that interferes with religious life. Take for example the affairs of the Ministry of Religion under the leadership of Fachrul Razi in the 2019-2020 era prohibiting male ASNs from wearing shorts because they are considered as characteristic of radicals.

Yaqut continues to react to asking the Ministry of Religion not to take care of small things. He asked the Ministry of Religion to eradicate radicalism not on his clothes, but on his ideology. Yaqut's courage received appreciation from here and there.

President Jokowi was attracted. Jokowi considers that Yaqut can bring Indonesia's diversity to be maintained. This condition made Jokowi then replace Fachrul Razi with Yaqut as Minister of Religion in 2020.

Jokowi tried to believe the Indonesian people that Yaqut was able to bring new energy. Yaqut immediately returned Jokowi's trust with various breakthroughs. He then tried to forbid the sale and purchase of positions that usually occur within the Ministry of Religion.

He took this step as a form of resistance to corruption. He also explained that he would take correct care of his subordinates' steps. He did not hesitate to impose sanctions on those who violate his policies.

Yaqut took the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to support his desire to clean up the Ministry of Religion. He no longer wants the Ministry of Religion to be considered an attack on corruption.

"Transactionally, we strictly prohibit the sale and purchase of this position at the Ministry of Religion. For example, people move because they bribe the leadership. And we will monitor this properly down to a strict extent."

"We have implemented policies in the ranks of echelon I units in the process of rotation and mutation so that there is no transactional position. We really hope for support and supervision from the KPK," Yaqut said as quoted by the Ministry of Religion website, March 3, 2021.

Anti-corruption policies are not the only things that Yaqut has rolled out. He also required his staff, including all institutions under the Ministry of Religion, to pay tribute to the Red and White flag accompanied by the anthem Indonesia Raya every 17th of each month.

The regulation was issued through the Instruction of the Minister of Religion No. 2/2021 concerning the Respect of the Red and White Flag and Prayers which will begin on June 17, 2021. This activity is a form of commitment to love Indonesia. Moreover, as part of serving the nation and state in total.

"Through this activity, I hope that all ASN will have more gratitude, love for the country, as well as be motivated by their enthusiasm to serve the nation and state in total," explained Yaqut as quoted on the business.com page, June 17, 2021.
