Bobby Nasution Inaugurated As Mayor Of Medan In Today's Memory, February 26, 2021

JAKARTA Memories of today, four years ago, February 26, 2021, Bobby Nasution was inaugurated as the new Mayor of Medan. The inauguration made President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) son-in-law promise to solve all kinds of problems in Medan City, from infrastructure, garbage, to floods.

Previously, Bobby's presence in the national political map could not be separated from Jokowi. Bobby also followed in the footsteps of his father-in-law to join the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). He began to gaze at the dream of becoming the leader of Medan City.

Bobby Nasution and Kahiyang Ayu's marriage shocked the whole of the archipelago on November 8, 2017. The excitement was because the married woman was the daughter of President Jokowi. All the country's political elites flocked and congratulated Graha Saba Buana, Solo, Central Java.

Invited guests for the Bobby-Kahiyang event reached 8 thousand people. Those who came came came from various groups, from state officials to local residents. The wedding moment went smoothly. Jokowi hopes that Bobby and his son, Kahiyang can last forever.

Bobby also continued his life as an entrepreneur. He seemed comfortable choosing his career as an entrepreneur rather than entering politics. Khalayak also considered Bobby's steps positive. However, recently Bobby actually surprisingly appeared on the Medan Mayor candidate exchange.

His name was echoed throughout Medan. He appeared as a strong candidate. People think there is Jokowi behind him. Even though Jokowi rejected the claim. Jokowi does not want to interfere. Bobby is like a challenge to enter politics.

He chose the same political vehicle as his father-in-law, PDIP on December 3, 2019. Bobby's wish was to welcome him. PDIP received it well. Then PDIP began to move to find Bobby's companion.

"When it comes to blessing, Pak Jokowi's son-in-law is up to what he wants to be, going to the bureaucrat business, professional, whatever. For example, in the past, my wife wanted to register for CPNS, there was no intervention from my in-laws. So we never put pressure on it. We go forward with preparation starting to prepare ourselves, seeing the ability of ourselves until we see what the problem in Medan is like.

"If I think, I myself understand the problems of Medan City, and I think I can control that problem, then I can nominate myself as a candidate for mayor. (pair management) That's the policy of each party to match up. We have registered our communication with the secretary. For representatives, we have all agreed more on the criteria, not who it is. The criteria for who is right to deal with problems in Medan," said Bobby, quoted by the CNN Indonesia page, December 3, 2019.

The party that supported Bobby was piled up. The coalition was fat. Bobby then paired with Aulia Rachman. This narrative made Bobby increasingly confident that he could win the Medan Pilkada. At its peak, Bobby became the elected Mayor of Medan on December 9, 2020.

The Governor of North Sumatra, Edy Rahmayadi, only officially inaugurated Bobby as Mayor of Medan on February 26, 2021. The inauguration made Bobby immediately promise to answer all kinds of problems in Medan City, from infrastructure development, waste, to floods.

"I am sure that the problem of infrastructure for the next two years of infrastructure problems can be resolved. Starting today, don't work alone anymore and don't let anyone feel superhero. Eliminate the ego of the institution's centrist. We will solve the flood problem from upstream to downstream and still ask for support from the central government," said Bobby as quoted by the sindonews page, February 26, 2021.
