Disney Considering Delaying Mulan's Release Again

JAKARTA - Walt Disney is reportedly considering delaying the release of Mulan, which is scheduled to air on July 24. The COVID-19 pandemic, which has shut down a number of entertainment businesses, has forced to postpone promotions for films including Mulan.

Mulan is one of the films that many viewers are waiting for when theaters reopen in July. However, the low decline in COVID-19 cases made the production house think of alternatives to delay broadcasting.

Previously, Mulan was scheduled to air on March 27 and was later postponed to July 24 due to the situation.

This live action film, which is a reboot, cost the production of 200 million US dollars (US) and of course Disney requires a large marketing cost to achieve the same or more profits. The choice of releasing via a digital platform is far from Disney's mind considering they have released Artemis Fowl on Disney Plus.

Besides Mulan, Christopher Nolan's Tenet is also scheduled to air on July 31. Nolan's optimism in choosing the right date met the expectations of AMC Entertainment Holdings, the largest cinema chain in the US.

AMC also hopes that Mulan and Tenet will return to entertainment profits, especially the big screen. But if Disney delays Mulan then Tenet will be the only film on schedule.

This step is also taken by Matrix 4, The Batman, The Flash, Black Widow, and many others.

The delay in screening Mulan also resulted in the opening of cinemas in other countries. Cinemas in China are also a trigger if Mulan can be brought to the international market, but currently China is still closing their cinemas due to the second wave of COVID-19.
