1917 Returns To The Top Of The British Film Charts

JAKARTA - Sam Mendes' war epic 1917 returned to No.1 on the UK Official Film Chart after being released on DVD and Blu-ray.

The film has sold more than 146,000 physical copies in the past week, which pushed Bad Boys for Life out of the top spot.

The film, which focuses on the story of two young warriors who race against the clock to deliver messages across enemy lines, was nominated for 10 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director. The end result, 1917 won Best Cinematography, Visual Effects and Sound Mixing.

Dean-Charles Chapman (Game of Thrones) and George MacKay (True History of the Kelly Gang) play the young protagonists in this film, namely Lance Corporals Blake and Lance Corporals Schofield.

"War is one of the few great communal things we all understand or have access to, to which the human experience is extended," MacKay told NME of the universal appeal of war films.

In a four-star review from 1917, NME said of the film's success: "Mendes, his crew and cast have made a believable film about a man caught in a conflict that is utterly inhuman."

Other films on this week's Top 10 list include the Disney film about the adventures of men and dogs starring Harrison Ford, The Call of the Wild, and Tom Hooper's live-action remake, Cats, which was released online in the early days of COVID- 19 that is ongoing.
