JAKARTA - The fashion trend of the last few years is moving towards a simpler, more comfortable, and flexible style of clothing used for various activities.
Urban society now tends to choose outfits with minimalist designs but are still functional, easy to combine, and relevant to wear from casual to semi-formal activities.
In addition, the issue of sustainability is also beginning to be a concern in the fashion industry, in line with increasing awareness of the concept of circular fashion and the use of more sustainable clothing.
In the midst of this lifestyle change, various global fashion brands continue to present innovations while expanding access for customers in Indonesia. One of them comes from UNIQLO which officially opened its newest store at Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta, on May 27, 2026. This store is UNIQLO's 78th store in Indonesia.
Located in one of the premium shopping centers in Jakarta, this store comes with an area of 1,415 square meters and offers a variety of LifeWear collections that are known to carry the concept of essential, comfortable, and easy-to-use clothing in everyday life.
COO of PT Fast Retailing Indonesia (UNIQLO Indonesia), Ryohei Sato, said the opening of this latest store is part of the fashion retail's efforts to bring the LifeWear concept to more people with diverse needs and lifestyles.
"We want to present clothes that are simple, comfortable, and can be used by everyone without age or style restrictions. The LifeWear concept is designed to be easy to combine according to each individual's character and relevant to use every day," said Ryohei Sato.
The LifeWear collection itself is designed to meet the needs of active urban people. Several lines such as AIRism and UV Protection are quite popular because they are considered suitable for use in tropical climates like Indonesia. This technology is not only present in innerwear, but is also applied to T-shirts, outerwear, and undergarments.
In addition, basic collections such as T-shirts, linen, and knitwear are still the favorite choice because of their versatile and timeless designs. This type of clothing model is considered easier to combine with various evolving fashion styles.
Not only presenting the latest collection, this store also brings a number of collaborations that highlight the issue of sustainability in the fashion industry. One of them is through the REMAKE PROJECT project with ESMOD Jakarta.
The collaboration features 16 upcycle works from the creativity of ESMOD Jakarta students made from donated clothes through the RE.UNIQLO program. Clothes that were previously unused were processed back into contemporary fashion works with a new design touch.
Deputy Director of Academic Programs ESMOD Jakarta, Guillaume Oger, said this collaboration was an opportunity for students to get closer to industry practices while understanding the importance of sustainability in the modern fashion world.
"This collaboration gives students the opportunity to develop their creativity while understanding how the concept of sustainability can be applied in the fashion industry. They also get the experience of interacting directly with global brands through the work they create," said Guillaume Oger.
Through this project, the concept of circular fashion is introduced as an effort to extend the life cycle of clothing while reducing textile waste. The works will later be exhibited in a mannequin installation in the store area and will be changed periodically every month.
In addition to collaborating with fashion education institutions, a special area inside the store also showcases the works of a number of local Jakarta MSMEs through the #JAKARTANEIGHBORHOOD program. Various products such as accessories, bags, and jewelry by local brands are combined with LifeWear collections as a form of support for the local creative industry.
Some of the MSMEs involved include Deya, Batik Pop, Kina and Jade, Dark Soul Space, ISSHU, and Medividi. The presence of this area becomes a space for collaboration between local products and modern fashion styles that are developing among urban communities.
During the opening period until May 31, 2026, visitors can also enjoy a number of special promotional programs and offers that are available for direct purchase at the store or through the official application of the Japanese fashion retailer.
