Prince Harry Appears in Washington, King Charles Soon to the US but Father and Son Do Not Meet

JAKARTA - Prince Harry appeared in Washington, D.C., weeks before King Charles' visit to the United States. Citing a report from People, Thursday, April 2, the Duke of Sussex appeared in a major forum discussing privacy, artificial intelligence, and online security.

On March 31, Harry spoke at the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) conference and attended a keynote session at the IAPP Global Summit. At the forum, he emphasized that privacy is not a side issue.

"I view privacy as a fundamental issue - something that underpins the trust, security, and stability of our society," Harry said as quoted by People.

He also touched on his personal experience. According to Harry, his relationship with the issue of privacy has begun since birth. Over the past seven years, he has been involved in legal cases against three media organizations in the UK for alleged systematic and illegal violations of privacy, including attempts to cover it up. He considers such practices too often considered normal.

Harry said the move did not give him any advantage, even bringing personal and reputational burdens for himself, Meghan Markle, and their two children. However, according to Prince Harry, this issue is not just about one person, but about a system that affects the lives of many people. He also asked forum participants to dare to demand accountability and build rules that really protect privacy.

Online security and digital responsibility issues have indeed been one of Harry and Meghan's philanthropic focuses since stepping down from royal roles in 2020. Last week, the couple also praised a landmark ruling against YouTube and Meta.

Harry's appearance came on the same day that Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles and Queen Camilla would make a state visit to the United States on April 27-30. The visit was made at the invitation of President Donald Trump to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence.

The White House said the agenda would include a state dinner at the White House on April 28. Trump said he and Melania Trump welcomed the visit and called it a historic event.

Although King Charles will come to the country where Harry is now living with Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet, the meeting of father and son is not on the agenda. According to a source quoted by People, the schedule for the state visit has been arranged very tightly, and Harry understands the situation.
