JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana appreciates the steps of the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI) Bali in developing culture-based tourism through the implementation of "Kalangan Widya Mahardika V".
According to Widiyanti, art, design, and culture are important elements that are inseparable from the Bali tourism ecosystem. He assessed that activities like this are able to strengthen Bali's position as a leading destination based on culture at the global level.
"The Kalangan Widya Mahardika V event and the Solo Exhibition of Professor Wayan Kun Adnyana are activities that contribute to strengthening the attractiveness of Bali tourism as a world-class cultural-based destination. This is an initiative that should be appreciated," said Widiyanti.
Furthermore, he explained that in the Indonesia Tourism Outlook 2025-2026 report, which was compiled together with Bank Indonesia and the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas, there were six main tourism trends. One of the prominent ones is the cultural immersion trend, namely the tendency of tourists to seek experiences that involve social interaction and cross-cultural understanding.
This trend shows that tourists, especially from abroad, now not only want to visit, but also directly participate in the local cultural life. Therefore, creative spaces that are able to present cultural experiences in a tangible way are becoming increasingly relevant in attracting tourists.
Widya Mahardika V is the fifth edition of a series of art activities at ISI Bali involving students, lecturers, and art practitioners. This event lasted for one week and became part of the Widya Mahardika Sadhamasa or Education Month.
One of the main agendas in this activity is a colossal intermedium performance titled "Kirtya-Jnana-Kawya". This collaborative work combines various art elements, ranging from dance, lighting, electrical elements, animation, to gamelan and orchestra music on one stage.
In addition to performances, this event also presents the Pharama Paraga exhibition, a retrospective solo exhibition that showcases the two-decade journey of Prof. Dr. Wayan Kun Adnyana's contemporary painting works. A total of 88 works are exhibited, depicting the development of artistic style from figurative to metaphorical to abstract exploration.
The exhibition was curated by Jeon Dongsu, Warih Wisatsana, and Alaida Niwaya, and is scheduled to take place from March 25 to May 2026.
On this occasion, Widiyanti also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Bali Tourism Polytechnic and ISI Bali. This cooperation aims to strengthen the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, especially in improving the quality of human resources in the tourism sector.
He emphasized that the synergy between the education and culture sectors is very important in supporting the progress of national tourism.
"Tourism is closely related to culture. Therefore, collaborations like this are very important to strengthen the quality of national tourism human resources," he said.
Meanwhile, the Rector of ISI Bali I Wayan Adnyana explained that the term "Kalangan" is interpreted as a space for expression and realization, while "Mahardika" symbolizes independence achieved through a long and earnest process.
He emphasized that this activity not only focuses on individual achievement, but also carries a broader mission for institutions, nations, and humanity.
"Thank you to all parties present. With sincere intentions, we present ISI Bali's sincerity for Indonesia," he said.
