Nirina Zubir is trying a new role as a 70-year-old grandmother in her latest film, Jangan Buang Ibu. Directed by Hadrah Daeng Ratu, this role is a new challenge for her who is only 46 years old.
"It's not easy to play a character either. Because sometimes playing a character has memories that we correct. Well, how do I play a character that I haven't experienced, if it sounds like a shock like 70 years," said Nirina Zubir in the launch of the teaser poster in South Jakarta on Friday, March 13.
As a grandmother, Nirina spends up to 4 hours wearing prosthetics. Instead of feeling burdened, he tries to reflect on himself every time he sees wrinkles on his face.
"Every wrinkle and every line on this face is really like... trying to be like, you know, we live in a time where if there are a few wrinkles, they are immediately cleaned up, treated like that. Meanwhile, yesterday was really there (prosthetic effect), like seeing yourself, it's like shaking in your heart," he explained.
"Even the atmosphere is like it's directly remembered by my mother who is no longer there, and my grandmother too. So it's like... ah, a lot. It's a mix of feelings for that character," said Nirina again.
He is grateful to be trusted to play a character who goes through various age transitions, ranging from 30 years old to 70 years old. In the film Jangan Buang Ibu, Nirina is also said to have three adult children.
"Alhamdulillah, anyway, if there is something in this film, after playing the character in this film, there are things I say to myself. One of them is on the face, right, like: 'Thank you, you've been patient and strong'. Then make the body too, because it feels like being a character (age) 30, 40, 50, to 70 years old, right," said Nirina Zubir.
The film Jangan Buang Ibu is adapted from a novel of the same name which tells the story of Ristiana (Nirina Zubir), a mother who tries to raise her three children after her husband dies.
The teaser poster released shows Ristiana's figure with her bleached hair and using a wheelchair and surrounded by her three children played by Refal Hady, Amanda Manopo, and Saputra Kori.
Meanwhile, the film Jangan Buang Ibu is planned to be shown in Indonesian cinemas this year.
