Sumedang Regency is known not only as a buffer area of the West Java metropolitan area, but also as an area that holds the wealth of Sunda history and culture.

The heritage of tradition, royal relics, and natural landscapes that are still well maintained make Sumedang have great opportunities to develop as an integrated cultural tourism destination.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon has stated the potential of Sumedang and Keraton Sumedang Larang areas to be developed into a flagship cultural tourism destination in West Java Province.

"Sumedang has great potential to become a Sunda cultural center. In the future, Sumedang should not just be a stopover, but should really become the main destination," he said when visiting Sumedang on Saturday, January 17.

He assessed that the development of this potential can include various complementary tourism sectors, ranging from culture, history, to local uniqueness possessed by the region.

"It could be a cultural destination, a historical destination, nature tourism, religious tourism, culinary tourism and others. If the region develops, of course this will also be beneficial for the people in Sumedang Regency," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

According to Fadli, the existence of the Sumedang Larang Palace has a strategic role in the preservation and development of Sundanese culture, so that it can be used as a center for cultural activities.

"Because the royal or sultanate area is one of the places to care for, protect, and advance culture," he said.

He also emphasized the importance of sustainable efforts in preserving cultural heritage, including involving the younger generation to become part of a living and thriving cultural ecosystem.

"What we hope for is sustainability in the cultural ecosystem, especially related to the progress of Sundanese culture," said Fadli, who while in Sumedang also reviewed the Pusaka Museum, Bale Seni, Gamelan Building, and Nagara Sumedang Building.

Meanwhile, Sri Radya Keraton Sumedang Larang H.R.I Lukman Soemadisoeria expressed his commitment to maintain and preserve the assets of the palace as well as support the steps to promote culture.

"We hope that the revitalization of the Nusantara palaces, especially the Sumedang Larang Palace, can be done as soon as possible," he said.

Currently, Keraton Sumedang Larang is functioning as a Prabu Geusan Ulun Museum which stores various historical relics, including the Binokasih Crown, the king's throne, heirloom weapons, ancient manuscripts, gamelan instruments, to the royal honor carriage.
