JAKARTA - The need for sustainable energy is increasingly becoming a major concern, as the younger generation is increasingly aware of environmental issues and climate-friendly lifestyles.

Today's young generation tends to prefer products and activities that are in line with the value of sustainability. This shift is seen from the increasing interest of young people in low-emission lifestyles, such as choosing public transportation, electric vehicles, to the use of energy-efficient devices at home and in the workplace. Clean energy is no longer seen as a technical issue or policy discourse, but as part of everyday life that is in line with the value of sustainability.

On the other hand, the momentum of the national energy transition also affects the perspective of the younger generation. 2025 is considered an important period in Indonesia's energy transition journey, where policy directions increasingly emphasize the development of sustainable energy.

This condition opens up space for young people to be more actively involved, both as environmentally aware consumers, innovators, and agents of change.

In this context, the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) held the "Energy Kaleidoscope: Reflection on Energy Issues 2025 and Outlook 2026" on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Soehanna Hall, The Energy Building, SCBD, South Jakarta.

This forum is a strategic platform to review the dynamics of national and global energy issues throughout 2025, as well as discuss the direction of Indonesia's energy policy in 2026.

"Energy challenges are not only related to supply and price, but also concern sustainability, national security, and Indonesia's economic competitiveness in the future," said the Chairman of the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center, Dr. Filda C. Yusgiantoro, in his presentation on the Energy Issue 2025.

In his remarks, Dadan Kusdiana, Secretary General of the National Energy Council, said that 2025 was an important period in Indonesia's energy transition. During this period, the direction of national energy policy increasingly confirms the commitment to the development of sustainable energy as the foundation for long-term energy security.

The resource person explained about sustainable energy.

According to Dadan, various global dynamics, ranging from geopolitical uncertainty to fluctuations in the world economy, are a reminder that dependence on fossil energy has great risks. Therefore, accelerating the transition to cleaner, low-emission, and sustainable energy sources is a strategic need, not just an option.

This effort includes strengthening policies, developing technology, and creating a sustainable energy ecosystem that is able to meet the needs of national development while maintaining environmental sustainability.

"Through these steps, the energy transition is expected to not only contribute to emission reductions and environmental protection, but also increase economic competitiveness and strengthen Indonesia's energy independence in the future," he added.

The discussion was further comprehensive with responses from representatives of the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Pertamina Energy Institute, which highlighted the interrelationship of energy issues with national development, energy diplomacy, and energy sector transformation.

The 2025 Energy Kaleidoscope event is part of the annual dissemination agenda of the PYC which brings together stakeholders from across sectors, ranging from ministries and agencies, SOEs, business actors, academics, to civil society organizations and think tanks in the energy sector.

"Through this forum, PYC hopes to encourage constructive and study-based dialogue to support the formulation of inclusive, adaptive, and sustainable national energy policies," he concluded.
