JAKARTA - The Christmas and New Year holiday season is coming soon. Many children have started planning and compiling a long list of gifts that they most want to receive during the end-of-year celebrations.

Not only toys, now children are also eyeing sophisticated gadgets, collectible dolls, to entertainment experiences such as concert tickets or sports matches.

The latest survey conducted by Intuit Credit Karma in October 2025 on more than 1,000 adults revealed that toys and technology products remain the top favorite of children.

Some of the most sought-after prizes include the latest iPhones, Labubu collection dolls, and concert or music festival tickets.

1. Toys and Games: 54% of children asked for toys such as Barbie, Lego, fidget toys, and slime.

2. Electronics and Gadgets: 47% of children want technology products, including the latest iPhone, Nintendo Switch, Apple Watch, or Oura Ring smart ring.

3. Entertainment tickets: 32% of children ask for concert tickets, sports matches, or music festivals.

4. Fashionable Clothes and Accessories: 29% of children are interested in clothes and accessories from popular brands such as Brandy Melville, Lululemon, or Princess Polly.

5. Doll Collection: 28% of children still want a labubu doll even though its popularity has declined. In addition to labubu, children are also interested in Sonny Angels or blind boxes.

"Children today not only want goods, but also experiences and things that are trending. This makes their gift list more diverse," said Erika Rasure, chief advisor for financial well-being at Beyond Finance, as reported by CNBC Make It! website.

The price of the gifts that the children ask for also varies. The Gallup survey showed that the average parent plans to spend more than 1,000 US dollars or Rp. 16.7 million for holiday gifts this year. Despite the cost of living pressure, many families still try to fulfill the children's wish list.

Even though the gift trend continues to increase, experts emphasize the importance of maintaining financial balance.

"Giving gifts should not come at the expense of financial health. It is important to be realistic and avoid impulsive spending," said Erika Rasure.

He added that parents do not need to feel guilty for refusing a child's request that is beyond the family's financial ability.

"It's okay to say 'no'. You have the right to prioritize finances and long-term family goals." he explained.

With the changing trend of increasingly diverse gifts, parents are expected to remain wise in choosing gifts that are in accordance with their abilities, but can still provide happiness for children throughout 2025.
