JAKARTA - Actor Rio Dewanto shared his unforgettable experience when he first set foot on the land of Kalimantan. This moment happened when he was involved in the latest horror film project titled "Kuyank", which was entirely shot in South Kalimantan.

"Honestly, before this film, I had never been to Kalimantan," said Rio Dewanto in East Jakarta, Monday, December 22.

He also took this opportunity to make the most of it not only to work, but also to explore and get to know the local culture.

In this film, he plays a character named Badi, a native man from Kandangan, South Kalimantan. The biggest challenge for him was of course mastering the dialect and habits of the local community.

However, the challenge actually became a door for him to be closer to the people. He interacted a lot and learned directly from them.

"Alhamdulillah, I have the opportunity to be able to go there, and I can have many friends there," he said enthusiastically.

One of the unique ways to "blend in" is to play tennis with locals in their free time.

"The first thing I asked Jo (the director) when I wanted to shoot, 'Is there a tennis court there?'" he recalled.

The relationship that was formed during the filming was not broken off just like that. "Which until now is still often kabarin-kabaran," he continued.

He also felt very touched by the warmth and generosity of the people of Kalimantan. "They are very happy to give food like that," said Rio.

Although the filming location is far and challenging, Rio admitted that he really enjoyed every moment. This experience made him fall in love with Kalimantan and its people.

The film Kuyank is planned to be released on January 29, 2026.
