JAKARTA - Hamish Daud, went directly to the post-flood disaster site in Aceh to monitor the current condition of survivors. Through his visit, Hamish shared a worrying and heartbreaking portrait of the situation on the ground covered in thick mud.
In his latest uploaded video, Hamish emphasized that his purpose of coming was not for the sake of television content, but purely to find out the reality faced by residents.
"So, we want to come here directly and talk to the residents, we want to know what the real situation is like," said Hamish Daud, quoted by VOI from the @hamishdw instagram, Friday, December 19.
One of the emotional moments was recorded when Hamish talked to a mother whose house was swept away by the current. In fact, the residents had only been there for five months after selling their belongings in the old place to move to the location.
"Now I have nothing left, sir," the mother said in a low voice.
Hamish noted that there were about 70 heads of households (KK) who lost their homes completely. The settlement conditions have now changed drastically to a mud patch.
"For now (residents) are still gathering plates, valuable items. There are no clothes, and this is the condition of many residents in Aceh now. Here there are about 70 KK (Head of Family) and all houses have been completely lost," he explained.
Based on observations and testimonies of residents at the location, the flood that hit this time was very extreme because of the material carried.
"This flood is not a normal flash flood, because this is a mud flood. If we take a bottle of aqua water and precipitate it, 80 percent of the land, 20 percent of the water," explained one of the residents to Hamish.
Despite being surrounded by destruction, Hamish admitted to being moved to see children at the disaster site who could still smile and play in the remnants of the puddles.
"Even though there is a disaster as bad as this, the important thing is that you can still have fun. Children can still find pleasure, even though the house is gone. They lost everything but they can still have fun," said Hamish.
At the end of his visit, Hamish invited the public to donate through the available assistance channels to alleviate the burden of the victims who now have to start life from scratch.
