JAKARTA - The Last Samurai Standing series has received the green light from Netflix to continue the story. The series was confirmed for a second season after becoming a global hit.

Last Samurai Standing takes place in the Meiji era in the 19th century, the series tells the story of 292 fighters who gather at Tenryuji Temple for a competition to get 100 billion Yen but against death.

Starring Okada Junichi, the series immediately ranked in the Top 10 Global Netflix for non-English categories for 88 countries including Japan.

In addition, this series became the first Japanese series to be nominated at the Critics' Choice Awards. Junichi not only played a role but also became a producer and choreographer working with director Fujii Michihito.

The series also stars Yumia Fujisaki, Kaya Kiyohara, Masahiro Higashide, Shota Sometani, Taichi Saotome, Yuya Endo, Yasushi Fuchikami, Jyo Kairi, Takayuki Yamada, Wataru Ichinose, Riho Yoshioka, Kazunari Ninomiya, Hiroshi Tamaki and Hideaki Ito.

Last Samurai Standing is adapted from Ikusagami, a novel by Imamura Shogo that won the 166th Naoki Prize in 2021.

Netflix itself has not announced plans to release the second season of Last Samurai Standing.
