"Sore: The Wife of the Future" Film Not Selected for the 2026 Oscars

JAKARTA - The Oscar Committee announced 15 films from 15 countries that made it into the first selection of the International Feature category at the 2026 Oscars. Unfortunately, the film Sore: Istri dari Masa Depan which represented Indonesia did not make the selection.

The film Sore: Istri dari Masa Depan directed by Yandy Laurens is a romantic drama film starring Sheila Dara and Dion Wiyoko. This film bagged four wins at the 2025 Indonesian Film Festival.

The film was also watched by more than 3 million people when it was shown in Indonesian cinemas.

Some of the films that entered the initial selection were Belen from Argentina, The Secret Agent from Brazil, Sound of Falling from Germany, Homebound from India, The President's Cake from Iraq, Kokuho from Japan.

Some of the films that have received great buzz at this year's festival have also passed this selection, ranging from It Was Just an Accident from France, Sentimental Value from Norway, No Other Choice from South Korea, Sirat from Spain, Late Shift from Switzerland, and Left-Handed Girl from Taiwan.

Three films that discuss Palestine also made it to the list, namely Palestine 36 from Palestine, All That's Left of You from Jordan and The Voice of Hind Rajab from Tunisia.

In addition to the international category, the committee also announced 11 other selection lists, namely Casting, Short Film Animation, Cinematography, Long Film Documentary, Short Film Documentary, Live Action Short Film, Hair and Makeup, Music in the category of original song and scoring, and Visual Effects.

The nomination selection will be carried out by the judges starting from Monday, January 12, 2026 to Friday, January 16, 2026. Later, the nominations for the Academy Awards will be announced on January 22, 2026.
