JAKARTA - The Indonesian Theater Festival (FTI) 2025 series was officially closed in Jakarta, Sunday, December 14. The closing at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki, marked the end of the FTI journey after being held in Medan, Palu, and Mataram.
FTI 2025 is not just a stage. This festival is the largest selection and circulation of national theater ideas this year. A total of 213 groups and artists from 95 regencies/cities in 25 provinces have registered. Of that number, 16 groups were selected and four invitations performed in Jakarta.
This festival is a collaboration between Titimangsa and PENASTRI, supported by the Ministry of Culture. Minister of Culture Fadli Zon emphasized that FTI is an important node for the distribution of cross-regional theater ideas and practices. "Theater records the diversity of Indonesian cultural expression. Not just diversity, but mega diversity," said Fadli Zon.
FTI 2025 carries the theme of the Illusion Circulation, which highlights the meeting of social reality and stage representation. This theme is translated through the transfer of Indonesian literary works into the form of theatrical performances.
English:
A number of works are staged for free for the public, including Burung Manyar Kita (Ambon), Hikayat Asampedas/Aroma Bomoe (Banda Aceh), Roh (Gowa), Panggil Aku Sakai (Pekanbaru), and Rintrik (East Jakarta).
At the end of the event, Fadli Zon handed over the Lifetime Achievement Award to Putu Wijaya for his long contribution to the world of Indonesian theater and literature.
FTI Jakarta closed the series of festivals in four cities at once and confirmed FTI's position as a national platform for distributing works and strengthening the Indonesian theater ecosystem.
