JAKARTA - Jo Jin Woong announced his retirement from the entertainment industry that made his name. This happened after his past story was revealed to the public.

On December 5, Dispatch revealed that Jo Jin Woong had been involved in several criminal cases as a teenager, ranging from car theft to attacks during school. He had served the program as a substitute for punishment considering that the crime was committed when he was a minor.

In addition, he is also said to have attacked and driven drunk as an adult. Jo Jin Woong is also not his real name and is suspected of choosing another name to cover up the criminal record.

The agency, SARAM Entertainment, apologized for the case, but they denied any allegations of sexual violence as reported.

Moments later, Jo Jin Woong released a statement through his agency containing a statement that he was retiring from the world of film.

Hello, this is actor Jo Jin Woong. First, I apologize to all those who have trusted and supported me until now and feel disappointed because of my past. I received criticism openly and as of today, I am reducing my activities and ending my career as an actor," said Jo Jin Woong.

I believe this is a responsibility I have to face for mistakes in the past. In the future, I will reflect and live as a human being. Once again, I'm sorry," he said.

"Thank you to everyone I love and respect. I apologize," concluded the actor.

Jo Jin Woong started his career on the theater stage like other Korean actors. Then, he got the opportunity to act in the film Once Upon a Time in High School in 2004.

Even so, he just started acting again when he met a senior in the military at a film company and auditioned for the film. He is also said to use his father's name as his stage name, Jin Woong. In an interview at the Yoo Quiz on the Block show, he said the use of the name was caused so that he would not embarrass his father.

He became a supporting actor in a number of successful films such as Our Brother, Running Wild, A Dirty Carnival, and Gangster High. Then, his role began to be calculated in the film The Front Line, Hwayi: A Monster Day, to Kundo: Age of Rampant.

Jo Jin Woong also plays the film The Admiral: Roaring Currents and Assassination which gets 10 million viewers.

The Korean drama Signal became a title that confirmed his career on television. With his role as detective Lee Jae Han, his acting career has increased, one of which is starring in the film The Handmaiden until it airs at the Cannes Film Festival.

He last acted in the film Dead Man and the drama No Way Out: The Roulete. The actor who was born in 1976 also made a special appearance in the Karma series.

Jo Jin Woong is also confirmed to star in Signal 2 with Kim Hye Soo and Lee Je Hoon. The drama production process has also been completed and is planned to air next year.
