JAKARTA - Director Nia Dinata wants to invite a new generation to watch the film "Berbagi Suami" (International Release Title: Love for Share) in a more complex development. Two decades after "Berbagi Suami," the latest version will be released next year.
"Berbagi Suami," released in 2006, tells the story of three women and their stories as people living in polygamy.
The film won the Golden Mail Award for Best Feature Film at the Hawaii International Film Festival in the United States and was also "Movie of the Year" from the Guardians e-Awards in 2007.
Now, production houses Kalyana Shira Films and Trois Films have announced the production of a new version, titled "Berbagi Suami: 20 Tahun Kemudian".
Filming for "Berbagi Suami: 20 Tahun Kemudian" will begin in early 2026, with a script that has been in development since September 2025.
"Berbagi Suami" was created as a critique of the currently hotly discussed issue of polygamy and serves as a mirror for many Indonesian women. Twenty years later, I feel this theme is still very relevant, only its face and form have changed," said Nia Dinata, director and screenwriter.
"Through 'Berbagi Suami: 20 Tahun Kemudian' , I want to show how women now navigate relationships, household roles, and self-confidence in the digital age, where the boundaries between privacy and publicity are increasingly blurred," she said.
Like the original film, "Berbagi Suami: 20 Tahun Kemudian" focuses on three female characters: Kamila, Karina, and Kianti, three characters across generations whose lives are interconnected through unexpected circumstances. All three are portrayed with touches of humor, irony, and emotional warmth that are characteristic of Nia Dinata's work.
Besides this news, the production company has not yet revealed who will be starring in "Berbagi Suami: 20 Tahun Kemudian."
Meanwhile, the film “Berbagi Suami: 20 Tahun Kemudian” is scheduled to premiere in 2026.
