Review Of Rengga & Cinta Films: The Same Formula, Different Feelings

JAKARTA - Miles Films presents the film Rangga & Cinta, a 'rebirth' of the film Ada Apa Dengan Cinta (AADC) which aired in 2002 and formed a popular culture as well as inaugurated Miles' production house.

In this new version of birth, Rangga & Cinta introduced new players but is still being worked on by producer Mira Lesmana, who this time hooked up with Nicholas Saputra as a producer. In addition, Riri Riza became a director for this film and a concept that was brought as a musical.

The film Rangga & Cinta tells the story of Cinta (Leya Princy), a popular high school student with his friends, close to Borne (Rafi Sudirman) and being a school trading team.

The conflict began when Cinta did not win the annual poetry competition from schools, different from the previous years. The winner of this year's poetry competition was given to Rangga (El Putra Sarira).

Love became even more annoyed after Rangga was reluctant to interview the trading team because he felt he had never sent the poem. In the mind of Cinta, Rangga is a proud and arrogant figure.

When they argued, Cinta accidentally found the poetry book that Rangga read. Then Rangga felt grateful because Cinta returned the book and from there their closeness began.

At first glance there is no update from the previous story. The film Rangga & Cinta appears in the same order so that the nostalgic side is fulfilled for the audience.

Of course what distinguishes are musical elements that have been present since the beginning of the film. The decision to sing songs from AADC performed with choreography stole the attention and made a good impression - to look forward to what would happen.

Some of the iconic scenes are also re-conveyed in this film, some of which are combined with musicals to emphasize that this film is a musical.

Watching this film reminds us of a teenage musical film from the United States whose main focus is the love story of the two main characters.

However, among the musical numbers that were present, the most memorable appearance came from the most doubtful - El Putra Sarira. As Rangga, there was a change in emotion presented by El which got warm over time. At the beginning of the film, he looks stiff, indifferent, proud and speaking flat, slowly the tone changes in the middle of the film.

El sang the least portion in the film but that moment left an impression after watching, looking forward to what El Putra would bring after his acting debut.

In terms of the Love gang, the five actors displayed their best side in interpreting the previous gang. Everyone came like a high school gang with overflowing emotions and great curiosity.

There is no need to think too much about digesting the film Rangga & Cinta because this film is an entertainment that evokes longing for high school stories.
