JIS Patimura Elementary Inaugurates New Spaces For Student Creativity And Collaboration

JAKARTA - Commemorating his seven decades of journey in the world of education, the Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) inaugurated the Pattimura campus which was completely renovated. The band scissors event was held in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta on September 23 yesterday.

The addition of a new building at JIS Pattimura Elementary (PEL) will widen the innovative, inclusive and creative learning space. Maya Nelson, Head of School JIS said that the renovation of the Pattimura Elementary campus would welcome a new phase without forgetting the history of their long journey.

For 72 years, Pattimura Elementary has been a place of community and connection, establishing a life-long learning foundation for the generation of JIS students. Today, PEL is entering a new phase in its long story on the front lines of basic education, which is a very happy moment for our school! " he said at the inauguration ceremony.

At the beginning of its presence, PEL had intended to provide a holistic learning experience rooted in the best practices from around the world. As times go on, PEL also continues to grow following global changes.

Jill Bellamy, PEL principal said that the presence of these new spaces reflects her deep commitment to providing a warm, inspiring, and child-centered learning space.

This new room will enrich our students' daily experiences and support collaboration, creativity, and wider connections across the community. When we reopen PEL, we are full of enthusiasm for the future a time in which children feel they have, and are empowered to thrive in every aspect of their learning journey, "he explained.

The inauguration of the Pattimura campus was also attended by the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Abdul Mu'ti, M.Ed who appreciated the PEL education system that upholds inclusiveness, in line with the motto of the Indonesian nation.

Bhinneka Tunggal Ika means unity in diversity. It is important for us to maintain identity, respect differences, and make it a way to unite as a citizen of the world. Jakarta Intercultural School is a real example of how this principle lives in everyday education practices," said the Minister.

The Indonesian government under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto is committed to presenting superior schools with the best teachers and facilities. The presence of JIS Pattimura Elementary, which has just been renovated, reflects this vision presents quality, multi-cultural, and global competitive education for future generations," he added.

Renovations carried out at PEL include a two-story library with a comfortable area to foster a love of reading, literacy and research; a wide classroom to support transformative education that emphasizes changing perspectives through critical reflection, experience exploration, and student empowerment. There is also an Experential Learning Lab for practical learning; complete theaters along with music and dance spaces to encourage performing arts; as well as an expanded Maker Space to explore creativity and basic concepts of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Pattimura trees in open spaces are maintained as a symbol of strength and beauty that houses all members of the campus community. Phil Rickard as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of JIS expressed his gratitude for the values and confidence that is firmly rooted in the Pattimura campus culture.

With the spirit of scoring the best generation who will play a big role in the future, Maya Nelson closed her speech with great optimism.

"Pattimura Elementary is ready for the next round. Together, we can make it amazing; a journey full of fun learning and meaningful growth, rooted in excellence," concluded Maya.
