JAKARTA - Contestants from various countries began vying to show their best performances and prove themselves worthy of becoming The Next Miss Universe. The Miss Universe 2020 event took place in Florida, USA.

The contestants perform national costumes from their respective countries on Thursday, May 13. Indonesia represented by Roro Ayu Maulida Putri, Puteri Indonesia 2020 also did not want to lose to show her best performance in order to scent the nation's name at the Miss Universe 2020 event.

Ayu Maulida performed wearing a costume themed 'Komodo Dragon: Indonesian Prehistorical Heritage'. Through her personal Instagram upload, Ayu Maulida explained the details behind the komodo dragon costume.

"This national costume is the result of a collaboration between designer Diana M Princess of Diana Couture, and accessories Yuling Hoo and Silvy Prajogo from Le Ciel Design," wrote Ayu Maulida reported ERA.id, Friday, May 14.

Ayu Maulida explained that the length of the costume reached 10 feet (3 meters) and weighed more than 300 pounds (136 kilograms). According to him, komodo dragons are the toughest lizards on Earth brasal from the Lesser Sunda Islands in Indonesia for millions of years. Komodo dragons are often also referred to as "The Last Link to Prehistoric Dinosaurs".

Ayu Maulida said designer Diana Putri chose the pedestal behind the Black & Gold 3D Sequin for her dress, creating a luxurious, enigmatic and wild effect that resembled a Komodo dragon. Dramatic 3D chest and tail pieces are made with Skin Welding Cuts and colored with special methods to resemble the creature.

"The 3D effect on the tail is then emphasized by boning through balens. To add an elegant contest effect, the korset base is also used to further emphasize Ayuma's figure. All beads are made by hand, while all metal plates resembling scales are intricately stitched," he said.

Ayu reveals Yuling Hoo & Silvy Prajogo from Le Ciel Design chose three different types of metal combined into one. The three colors are rustic gold, copper or bronze, and black gold to create an ombre effect on the dress. Scales are made of hammers and bangs.

Apparently, the dress has more than 5,000 scales to make the costume look more elegant. Ayu also explained some of the complexities in making the komodo dragon costume.

"The dress consists of over 5,000 unique scales to create the most luxurious yet realistic approach to costumes. The most complicated, however, is the mechatronics aspect, where Komodo's handmade headpiece deals with robotic systems that combine motors, sensors and microcontrollers. The necklaces and gloves that light up are made with LED controllers," he said.

The upload was flooded with praise from netizens. They feel proud and claim to get goosebumps at Ayu Maulida's performance.
