JAKARTA - Former Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani shared the story of her friendship with former Foreign Minister (Menlu) Retno Marsudi. Both of them were ministers in the era of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi.

Sri Mulyani shared the story of their friendship through her Instagram upload. Several photos were seen shared, one of which was Sri Mulyani and Retno Marsudi sitting together.

Sri Mulyani said that she and Retno were both raised in Semarang. They studied at the same high school.

Retno and I are good friends (Bestie). Different but the same. We are different places of birth, but we were both born in the same year and grew up in Semarang," wrote Sri Mulyani, quoted Monday, September 15, 2025.

"We are different elementary schools (SD) and junior high schools (SMP) - but we are both in the same high school, SMA Tiga Semarang," he added.

They then studied higher education at different universities and had different careers. However, in the end Sri Mulyani and Retno Marsudi finally worked together as ministers.

Although in different ministries, both of them became the first female ministers in their respective fields.

We are different from the assignment of Minister : Retno Minister of Foreign Affairs - and I have had 3 positions : Minister of Development Planning/Bappenas- Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy. But we are both the First Minister of Women in each of these positions," he explained.

Interestingly, Sri Mulyani and Retno Marsudi's good relationship continued to their children. It is known that their children both studied doctorally at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FKUI).

Their two children also graduated at the same time. Sri Mulyani also shared the moment she and Retno Marsudi attended their child's graduation in the upload.

"Our second child is both a boy from the University of Indonesia Medical Specialist School but Bagas Anak Retno, took my child's Heart-Adwin Disease Specialist, taking an Internal Medicine Specialist," said Sri Mulyani.

"Our children went through a specialist doctor program four years ago, and both were completed and graduated on the same day," he continued.

With the long journey he went through together, Sri Mulyani admitted that she was grateful for her friendship with Retno Marsudi. Even though they have now traveled differently, they are still career mothers and loved.

"Retno and I - two friends - many of our stories and journeys of life are different, but we are both women and mothers who have careers, work and always love and are loved and supported by family," concluded Sri Mulyani.
