YOGYAKARTA - In Islamic law, aqiqah is a procession of slaughtering animals for newborns. In order to have the value of worship, there are several conditions for aqiqah goats that are determined in Islam.

In language, aqiqah means hair that is in the head of a newborn baby. In the aqiqah procession, there is a baby hair shaving procession that is in accordance with the teachings of the Prophet.

This procession is carried out as a form of gratitude to Allah SWT. The implementation of aqiqah is usually equipped with several other processions, such as shaving the baby's hair and giving names to the baby.

The requirement for aqiqah goats is basically not much different from the goat used for sacrifice. One of them is that the goat must be old enough, or already at least 1 year old or on the road for 2 years, so the benchmark is not large or small.

The goats obtained by not halal, for example stolen from their owners, cannot be used as aqiqah animals. This will certainly damage the value of the aqiqah worship itself to Allah SWT and invite evil.

Regarding gender, there is no demand for goats to be female or male. Thus, goats that are slaughtered can be of any gender, as long as the age is sufficient that is appropriate in sharia.

Not the same as the sacrificial pilgrimage, the distribution of aqiqah animals is ripe. This is in accordance with the hadith of Aisyah ra:

"There are two goats for boys, and one goat for girls. She is cooked without breaking her bones. Then eaten (by her family), and converted on the seventh day," (HR. al-Bayhaqi).

It is also important to pay attention to the implementation of aqiqah, that apart from being consumed by yourself, some aqiqah goat meat must also be distributed to others, especially to relatives and neighbors.
