World's Most Expensive Taxi Price Cities, Paris To London List

JAKARTA - The cost of going on vacation often swells quickly. One of the expenses that can contribute is the cost of a taxi, either when leaving the airport, visiting tourist attractions, or giving tips to the driver.

However, a recent study reveals cities in the world with the cheapest and most expensive taxi rates. Reporting from the Daily Mail page, this study analyzed 50 popular cities in various parts of the world, from Japan to Mexico.

Paris, a city known for its favorite tourist destination thanks to the unusual Eiffel Tower, culinary and art, has turned out to be the city with the most expensive taxi rates in the world.

The average cost of a taxi trip five miles (about 8 km) in the French capital reaches 29.12 pounds or IDR 634 thousand, including a 7.5% tip for drivers.

The second position is occupied by London at a rate of 27.96 pounds or IDR 609 thousand, including a 10% tip. Then, followed by Milan in third place with 24.57 pounds or IDR 535 thousand with a 7.5% tip.

The city of Osaka in Japan is in fourth position, with an average rate of 24.06 pounds or IDR 524 thousand for a five-mile trip. Meanwhile, Amsterdam occupies the fifth position at a cost of around 24 pounds or IDR 522 thousand.

Delhi Becomes Cheapest City, United States With Highest Tips

On the other hand, Delhi in India is the city with the cheapest taxi fare. The cost of a five-mile trip is only about 2.06 pounds, or IDR 44 thousand, already including a 12.5% tip. Maybe the tip is indeed high, but only around IDR 4.800. If without a tip, then the taxi price is very low, namely 1.83 pounds, or IDR 39 thousand.

Next, Egypt followed in second place at a cost of 2.31 pounds or IDR 50,000, including a 10% tip. Denpasar, Indonesia is in third place at a rate of IDR 52 thousand. Interestingly, the tip is not expected in this city.

The city of Agra in India, ranks fourth at a rate of 3.74 pounds or IDR 81 thousand, followed by Shanghai, China at a cost of 4.14 pounds or IDR 90 thousand.

The research was conducted by ChoiceQuote, a taxi insurance specialist. They also revealed that in 86% of the analyzed cities, a tip to taxi drivers is expected.

Regarding the culture of tipping, it's not surprising that the United States is ranked the highest, with a tip expectation of 17.5% for taxi drivers. Followed by South Africa with 15%.

Several countries such as India, Greece, and Mexico usually expect tips of 12.5%. While in Egypt, Croatia, and the UK, drivers may expect 10%.

In countries such as Vietnam, Russia, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, and France, tips of 7.5% are considered sufficient.
