Menbud Fadli Zon Said About The Javanese War Film: Monumental Project Raises National History

JAKARTA - "This is an important and monumental project. We are very supportive," said Culture Minister Fadli Zon when receiving director and CEO of Visinema, Angga Dwimas Sasongko, at the Ministry of Culture Building, Jakarta, Monday, August 4, 2025. The film, which was discussed: The Java War the epic story of Prince Diponegoro's struggle against Dutch colonialism.

Prepared for two years, Java War Film will enter its early production period in 2027. This project coincides with two centuries of the eruption of the Diponegoro War on July 20, 1825. According to Fadli, if worked on with a strong cinematic approach, this film can present a magnificent historical narrative that touches the younger generation.

Angga explained that this film not only highlighted the battle, but explored the philosophical and humanitarian aspects of Diponegoro. This is not just a war film or biopic. We want to present the journey of his thoughts and transformations," he said. He also emphasized that the Javanese War was a collective effort, not just Visinema's work.

Producer Taufan Adryan said this film will display Diponegoro's leadership side which is strong and has the nuances of piety. What's interesting is not only the war, but how he becomes Diponegoro," he said.

The scenario was written by Ifan Ismail (Habibie & Ainun) and Peter Carey, a historian author of The Power of Prophecy. Both explore historical narratives that have been rarely conveyed in cinema.

The meeting was also attended by Director General Ahmad Mahendra and the ranks of the Ministry of Culture. The government affirms its commitment to strengthening history films as pillars of collective memory and national culture.
