JAKARTA - Clinical psychologist and Pritta Tyas' family, M.Psi, share tips parents can do to reduce their children's tantrums because they don't want to end their shower time.

According to the clinical psychologist who graduated from Gadjah Mada University in a discussion in Jakarta, Sunday, one of the reasons why children do not want to stop while taking a shower is the instructions of parents who sometimes seem unilateral, which triggers debate.

"Because the child, if you just say take a shower, don't take too long, the brain can't understand, don't take too long," said Pritta.

Pritta said parents need to make an initial agreement about the duration of the shower before the child enters the bathroom.

For example, parents can tell their children the limit of taking a shower in the morning for a maximum of 10 minutes and give an idea that after taking a shower, they have to wear clothes, breakfast, then go to school. Children's bath time rules can be adjusted to daily conditions.

"The point is to look at the child's point of view, not our views (parents) who want it to be fast," said Pritta.

In supporting the agreement, parents can use various methods, such as installing a counter (remind) to limit shower time. Children can be invited to install their own teams and determine the duration of the bath so that they feel that control and responsibility rests with themselves.

"If we (parents) were installed, he would feel the control lies with his parents," said Pritta.

Parents can also tell their children about interesting things that can be done after bathing, such as playing or watching movies.

Pritta also reminded that the agreement must be concrete and invite children to take part in making the agreement.

"So what's interesting, what's the deal, and he has a hand in making that deal and it must be concrete," he said.
