Tighten Extreme Tourism Security, Residents Can Report To This WhatsApp Number If They Find SOP Violations

JAKARTA - The public and tourists are asked to immediately report all forms of violations of security procedures at tourist sites, especially in destinations that are classified as extreme.

The Ministry of Tourism provides complaint services through the WhatsApp number 0811 Delicacy895 Joint 676767 for anyone who finds tourism practices that are not in accordance with safety standard operating procedures (SOPs).

This step is part of the government's efforts to strengthen security systems in high-risk tourist attractions. The Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, emphasized that all managers and business actors of extreme tourism are obliged to implement SOPs in a disciplined manner to ensure the safety of tourists.

The affirmation came after a tragic incident that befell Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins (26), who reportedly fell while climbing Mount Rinjani, West Nusa Tenggara, on June 21, 2025. His body was found three days later, on June 24.

"This incident is a strong warning to all parties that extreme tourism activities have a high risk. Therefore, SOP is not only a formal rule, but the main foundation for protecting human life," said Minister Widiyanti as quoted by ANTARA.

He said the SOP for climbing Mount Rinjani itself had been regulated in the Decree of the Head of the Mount Rinjani National Park Office Number 19 of 2022, and should be the main guide for all operators and tourists.

The central government, together with local institutions and authorities, is currently tightening supervision of the implementation of SOPs in various extreme destinations. In addition, they also emphasize the importance of periodic evaluation of the performance of tourism operators, guides, and porters.

"Every operator and tour guide must be ensured to have certification, basic safety skills, and understanding of evacuation procedures and emergency handling," he added.

Efforts to improve security also involve direct education to tourists. The government encourages visitors to always use official services, wear safety tools according to standards, and understand potential risks before starting extreme tourism activities.

The Ministry of Tourism appealed to the public not to hesitate to report if they found incompatibility with SOPs in the field. "Public participation is very important in creating a tourism ecosystem that is not only attractive, but also safe and responsible," said Widiyanti.
