JAKARTA - Cleanliness of tourist destinations is an important foundation in building sustainable tourism. Through the Clean Tourism Movement (GWB) initiative, the Ministry of Tourism encourages collective awareness of the importance of a clean, healthy, and comfortable environment for tourists.

One concrete manifestation of this movement is its implementation at Lovina Beach, Buleleng Regency, as an effort to strengthen the attractiveness of North Bali as well as smooth tourist visits to the Island of the Gods.

In the GWB activity which was held at Lovina Beach on Sunday, June 22, Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa emphasized that cleanliness is a crucial element in creating a memorable tourism experience. Clean destinations not only make tourists feel comfortable, but also improve the image of Indonesian tourism in the eyes of the world.

"This movement aims to raise public awareness and strengthen the image of the destination. We chose Lovina because of its strategic position as the center of North Bali," Ni Luh said in an official statement in Jakarta, as quoted by ANTARA.

He said that since taking office, he has received many inputs regarding the lack of cleanliness in various tourist attractions. Therefore, GWB was launched as a concrete step to improve this through cross-sectoral cooperation.

The GWB program itself includes environmental cleaning activities, provision of sanitation facilities, community-based waste management, as well as public education and cleaning campaigns aimed at the community and tourists. This step is expected to improve the quality of destinations and support the competitiveness of the Indonesian tourism sector at the global level.

In the implementation of the GWB in Lovina, around 500 participants consisting of elements of the central and local governments, students, local communities, private partners, and local residents took part in the beach cleaning action. This activity is a symbol of collaboration between various parties in maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of tourist destinations.

In addition to the hygiene aspect, GWB is also used to encourage equal distribution of tourists in Bali. So far, the flow of visits is still focused on southern Bali, such as Kuta and Nusa Dua. Through this movement, it is hoped that tourists will also be interested in exploring the areas of West Bali, North Bali, to East Bali.

"We want to start spreading the flow of tourists to other areas that are no less potential, and the basic thing that must be prepared is environmental cleanliness," continued Ni Luh.

He also emphasized that Lovina Beach was chosen because it is included in priority areas in the development of 3B tour packages which include Banyuwangi, West Bali, and North Bali. This program is part of a national strategy to distribute tourism potential more evenly and inclusively.
