Lestarikan Budaya Minangkabau, Pemkot Padang Hold Pentas Seni Di Pantai Secara Rutin

JAKARTA - As a tangible form of local cultural preservation, the Padang City Government, West Sumatra, is committed to presenting Minangkabau art to public spaces. This effort is realized through routine art performances which will be held every weekend in the Padang Beach tourist area.

Deputy Mayor of Padang, Maugus Nasir, said that this show aims to revive local wisdom values while providing cultural experiences to tourists.

"We will hold Minangkabau cultural arts performances regularly every weekend at Padang Beach," said Maugus in Padang, as quoted by ANTARA, June 5.

Currently, the government together with Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) and a number of relevant stakeholders are preparing various technical needs to support the implementation of this activity.

The art show is planned to take place in two strategic locations, namely in Medan Nan Papadeh Cimago and Pujasera Padang Beach. Pentas will be held in turns every Saturday night and Sunday night, taking advantage of the high number of tourist visits to the coastal area.

The Padang Beach has indeed become one of its favorite destinations, but so far it has not been equipped with cultural attractions. We want to add to the tourist attraction by presenting a typical Minangkabau art performance," explained Maugus.

The series of shows scheduled for June 14, 2025 will feature various traditional arts such as dance, music, to Minangkabau people's theaters such as signs. In addition, the Street Buskers Community (KPJ) was also involved in celebrating the event.

Not only involving professional artists, this show also opens space for elementary and junior high school students in Padang City to appear. This is a form of direct practice of the local content lessons of Minangkabau culture that they study at school.

"Children will perform various forms of art, such as traditional dances and traditional performances. This is a place for them to apply cultural lessons directly," he added.

The Padang City Education and Culture Office is currently preparing a schedule for students to appear so that this weekend's performances run regularly and become a sustainable program. With this routine art performance, it is hoped that the public and tourists will be able to know and love Minangkabau cultural wealth better.
