JAKARTA - The 2025 Cannes Film Festival has been successfully held from 13 to 24 May 2025. One of the largest film festivals in the world shows the diversity of various stories in an effort to penetrate the global market, including Indonesia.

Director Jafar Archery won the Palme d'Or for his latest film, It Was Just an Accident. This victory also marks the return of Archery after 22 years.

The Iranian director gave a touching speech, saying, "Let's put all the problems aside, all the differences, the most important thing right now is our country and the freedom of our country."

"Let's reach a moment together when no one dictates what we have to do, we say, and we don't do... cinema is society. No one has the right to dictate what you do," he said.

The film It Was Just an Accident was recognized by Neon's production house which became their sixth victory at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2024, they also acquired the film Anora.

It Was Just an Accident tells the story of the owner of the workshop that kidnapped a man who looks like a person in the past.
