JAKARTA - In a husband and wife relationship, two-way communication is the key to building mutual understanding, dividing roles fairly, and preventing domestic violence (kdrt).

When a couple is able to have an open dialogue about important needs, feelings, and decisions, the relationship becomes healthier and more balanced.

Deputy Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Veronica Tan emphasized the importance of women daring to express opinions and talk about their rights in the household.

According to him, the courage to communicate actively is a preventive step in preventing violence against women and children.

"From the results of our analysis over the past six months, it can be seen that many women have not dared to voice their opinions," Veronica said at the Coordination Meeting (Rakor) for the Development of Indonesian Joint Space (RBI) in Jakarta, Monday, as quoted by ANTARA.

He added that husband and wife must reach a mutual agreement, especially when making important decisions that have a major impact on family life, such as in terms of planning the number of children.

"A woman has the right to determine how many children she is able to grow well, both in terms of material, spiritual, emotional education, and the quality of their lives. If a woman feels unable, she has the right to deliver her decision, including the right to undergo a family planning program (KB)," said Veronica.

On this occasion, the Ministry of PPPA held a Coordination Meeting to strengthen the concept of the Indonesian Joint Space (RBI) which aims to create a safe and comfortable environment for women, children, and other vulnerable groups.

Currently, six regions have been inaugurated as RBI pilot projects, namely Jimpitan Village in Tangerang City (Banten), Mendalo Darat Village in Muaro Jambi Regency (Jambi), South Ayula Village in Bone Bolango Regency (Gorontalo), West Oesapa Village in Kupang City (East Nusa Tenggara), Langingi Island Village in Barito Kuala Regency (South Kalimantan), and Cempluk Village in Malang Regency (East Java).

This effort is expected to expand the safe space for women and children, as well as encourage awareness of the importance of equal communication in married life.
