JAKARTA - Imelda Therine is one of the actresses who often appears in various films and is still actively making names. It is quite underestimated that it does not stop him from realizing his passion project.
This year, he started acting by joining the film Samar: Ilmira Nirmala. He plays a comedian who often makes horror stories but it turns out that his life is more horror than the story in his comics.
"In my opinion, this concept is a pretty cool idea to be design-visual because we see moldy horror, we only depend on demons but here the special thing in this film is that comics give horror stories to their readers but the author's life is more horror than the story," said Imelda Therine, starting the story to VOI some time ago.
This is like the stigma of Indonesian horror films that depend on elements. Samar is not only a horror film that wants to give horror but deeper than that, there is something about life, in my opinion life can be horror, anxiety, anxiety, inner hurt can be horror," he explained enthusiastically.
He himself rarely stars in the horror genre. The last horror film he played was Tutuge (2022) while he will also act in the Songko film which is planned to air this year.
"Maybe the genre is horror because it's dark but there will be a transition to drama and this is a human drama. I still feel like we can relate to many things when we get stuck in the daily routine and the trauma we carry and the anxiety when we do something but there is no desire or when we go bankrupt," explained the woman who is familiarly called Imel.
Through the film Samar, Imelda Therinne tried out her skills as a producer which she said was not only related to finances. The woman who was born on May 19 explained that being a producer was a form of desire to make her dream film come true.
"Starting from a film, I think if the story is good, I will join, anyone will join. Starting from scripts and I like to join in the scenario for discussions about scripts and this mainstream genre is worth fighting for now," he said.
"Alhamdulillah, I entered several festivals in England, Birmingham, Spain and Kuala Lumpur through a festival that is indeed a horror genre and it is an official selection achievement and I joined here because I wanted to be involved with a fun and fresh concept and restore the essence of horror quality itself," he said.
Imelda continued, the premise for Samar is something that makes him fall in love so he wants to fight for this film to be produced and aired this year. Luckily, after three years, this film finally opens in theaters and can find the audience.
The story is stronger and there are many perspective meanings that relate to many people out there. Hopefully it can be an expression of life that represents many feelings of the audience but still feelings that can represent existing feelings and can be used as material for introspection and sharing. I think the film is a medium to share feelings of various dreams and fantasies and it is owned by humans," he continued.
In addition, the 42-year-old woman has recently played many diverse characters. He stole the attention with his role as Erni in the Glass Cup series, as did Vivian in Nightmares and Daydreams.
"Every project I take, I look for what I can give. What is certain is that the scenario as a reader is good. The script is only maybe what I can deliver when I play. So the roles I play, I have to break if I don't break, how can the audience not break," said Imelda Therine.
"Films are getting more and more exciting, there are genres of infidelity, some are a little koplo, comedy all kinds of things. I try to be diverse and be open-minded," he said.
Even so, his face was even more enthusiastic when asked if he still had a dream role. The mother of two admitted that the limited Indonesian genre made him even more curious to explore these roles.
"There are so many, especially in Indonesia, the genre is limited, the most horror is romance drama. If you watch movies outside the genre, there are many social, political, legal issues, about musical, i don't know. There are many," he said.
Apart from playing a role, he is also still interested if later there is an offer to become a producer for films with various genres. He hopes that he always wants to fight for a story that feels fresh to be presented to Indonesian film audiences.
"Films should be fought for with fresh story ideas and have meaning and message even though they are depicted darkly but are honestly described," said Imelda Therine closing the conversation that day.
