JAKARTA - The latest Dune film adaptation directed by Denis Villeneuve released the first photo. Starring Timothée Chalamet, this first photo was shared by Vanity Fair exclusively.

In the photo, Timothée Chalamet appears as a young version of Paul Atreides who is walking alone in black. Atreides is told to travel to a dangerous planet, Arrakis. In his adventures on the planet, he discovers the extraction of spices that can prolong life and give superhuman minds.

Dune is a sci-fi film based on Frank Herbert's 1965 novel of the same name. This is the third adaptation after the 1984 (David Lynch) and 2000 versions were judged to be failures and filled with criticism.

Denis Villeneuve's name as a director can be taken into account if you look at his work in Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. Villeneuve promises his adaptation will follow books more than David Lynch's.

"When I watched the adaptation (David Lynch's version), I was impressed, but it was not what I dreamed of so I tried to make the adaptation my way," said Villeneuve.

Apart from starring Timothée Chalamet, this new version of Dune will feature Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, and Chang Chen. On the other hand, this film is Chalamet's latest project after he starred in The French Dispatch. In the future, the 24-year-old actor is confirmed to play Bob Dylan in his biopic as well as the latest sequel to Call Me By Your Name entitled Find Me.

Villeneuve informed, Dune will be divided into two films. Production for the first part was completed in July 2019 and is scheduled to air commercially on 18 December.
