How To Choose Safe Gas Regulators To Prevent Fires

JAKARTA - Gas regulators are among the main components in the household gas system that functions to control gas pressure from tubes to stoves. The selection of safe regulators is essential to prevent gas leakage that can lead to fires.

The LPG gas leak is one of the main triggers for household fires. According to data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), fires caused by gas leaks or gas stove malfunctions are still one of the main causes of the fire incident in Indonesia.

In 2024 alone, there were more than 1,200 cases of fires caused by gas stoves, with material losses reaching billions of rupiah and, more importantly, threatening life safety.

In this case, according to Jatisampurna Firefighters Bekasi Istin, the cause of the explosion was not because the gas exploded or the stove. But the gas can gather in one room because of the influence of the regulator.

"The explosion that triggered the fire did not mean that the gas cylinder exploded, but there was a leak that came from the regulator. The gas leak gathered in a room, then when only a few sparks were ignited, there was an explosion," said Istin on the Niko Zenchi Series Media Day in Bekasi.

Therefore, understanding the cause of gas leakage and how to prevent it is very important to reduce the risk of fire.

To prevent gas leakage that can endanger safety, it is very important to choose a quality gas regulator and have met SNI standards.

Then routine checks on hoses, regulators, and gas cylinders must also be carried out to ensure there is no leakage.

Managing Director of Niko Elektronik Indonesia, Handoyo Xue, emphasized that gas regulators have an important role in daily cooking activities. Unfortunately, there are still many people who do not understand how to properly choose gas regulators.

"The gas regulator is the main component in the kitchen. We want to make sure every household has a safe, efficient, and long-lasting gas regulator," said Handoyo.

He advised the public to choose a regulator equipped with double-seal technology to improve security. This double-seal technology aims to keep the gas flow on the stove under control and locked safely.

"The regulatory material must also be resistant to corrosion to be more durable and able to withstand high pressure. In addition, ergonomic design will facilitate installation and use. Ensure regulators have met SNI standards for security guarantees," Hartono added.

Through appropriate prevention steps, cooking activities can run more safely and comfortably for all family members.
