Releasing Teaser Trailer, Gundik Movie to be Released May 22

JAKARTA - Umbara Brothers Film and Makara Production released a 62-second teaser trailer video for the film Gundik. In the teaser, a charismatic concubine appears with several rituals performed at her residence.

Then, four men come to rob, which is a big mistake. They are trapped in the house and have to face Sang Nyai. The film Gundik presents the horror and brutality of a concubine who is faced with the silliness of four robbers.

Agus Kuncoro, who plays one of the robbers, said, "The funny thing is, the four robbers each have their own characters, so that's what makes the tense situation can be ridiculous," said Agus Kuncoro in a press conference for the launch of the poster and trailer in Senayan, Central Jakarta, Sunday, March 16.

Gundik will air starting May 22. Anggy Umbara admitted that he had been preparing for it for a long time. He even admitted that he had communicated with other production houses beforehand.

 “The story of Gundik has been going to be used for some time now, it was going to go with a production house, and they even signed a contract,” said Anggy. “But there were too many compromises asked for, starting from the story and the creative process. Finally, I withdrew it, because it would not be ideal.”

The director continued, “You could say this is my ideal film, because I don’t want it to be not ideal if the orientation is only for the audience’s success. Finally, my team and I dared to produce the film ourselves. We produced it together with other friends.”

Currently, Anggy and his team are still in the final stages of editing the film. He said that there were obstacles when dealing with the Film Censorship Board (LSF), not only related to the poster – for which a solution has been found – but also for the scenes in the film itself.

“For the film, it was reviewed by the LSF yesterday. What they hope can be reviewed or revised is not only the violence (scenes), but there are several jokes (comedy scenes?) that are requested to be replaced or even removed," he said.

Anggy admitted to being disappointed with the LSF for his film this time. Different from his previous experience, he actually saw that the request from the LSF members was actually contrary to the values ​​of art itself. However, he ensured that he would continue to communicate so that the editing would not eliminate important messages that he wanted to convey to the audience.

"Their language should be made friendlier, we also don't know (the violent and comedic scenes) should be with a smile or what. We are still trying to discuss it continuously, while the editing process is ongoing. Maybe there will be some discussions in the future," he said. "I learned, making a film is not only difficult to make, it turns out that it also goes through a process that requires patience and maturity."

Ensuring that Gundik will present a different horror-heist presentation wrapped in comedy, Anggy explained, "The highlight, for those who watch it, is how they will find the semiotic symbols that are presented. If you can guess and follow, it will definitely be very exciting.”
