JAKARTA - Sonny Septian and Fairuz A. Rafiq have their own ways of introducing religious values to their children.
For Sonny, educating children in faith is not by instilling fear, but by fostering love for God.
"Yes, if we both are more afraid of Allah, we just love Allah more. Because if we are afraid, later they will think, if that's cruel, right," said Sonny Septian in the Tendean area, South Jakarta, Tuesday, March 4.
"But if they love how they can do all their worship, their faith, their responsibility without being asked. We'll introduce it first, that's how it is. Actually, what kind of Islam is SWT? So sometimes questions arise, like beyond reason," he continued.
Along with the increasing curiosity of children, Sonny often gets unique questions that are difficult to answer.
For Sonny, such a question is a sign that children are starting to be interested in understanding religion.
"'So Allah SWT is a girl or a girl?' That's it. I myself was like, 'What's the answer?' Then for example, why do we have to pray?," said Sonny.

"Well, that means when they ask questions like that, they want to know, they want to be involved in all of this," he added.
Therefore, he and Fairuz always guide children patiently, introducing religion slowly so that they can understand their values well.
"Well, we teach slowly, we take care of it, so that it remains in the corridor, the more we recognize it, it's okay to be a little forced, because the beginning is actually still the same," said Sonny.
Sonny also emphasized the importance of discipline in worship, although at the beginning there must be an encouragement for children to get used to it.
"Introducing it was also forced a little, their names were comfortable, that's it. Yes, maybe it should be really late, you can't miss the prayers," he said.
To motivate children, Sonny and Fairuz reward them so that they are more enthusiastic in studying religion, including memorizing the Qur'an.
"There is a reward. It makes children enthusiastic on the basis of both of us, so that children are increasingly motivated to memorize the Qur'an," he said.
