JAKARTA - Every time you go to a salon or trim your hair at home, haircuts are often thrown away without thinking. However, did you know that these haircuts can be used as natural fertilizers?

As it turns out, the remaining haircuts that are usually considered waste can be converted into resources that are beneficial for the growth of plants at home or gardens.

Human hair has keratin, a protein rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. This element is an important element in plant growth. When the haircut is properly exploited, it can become a natural fertilizer that fertilizes the soil, encourages plants to grow healthier, and helps in reducing the need for chemical fertilizers that are harmful to the environment.

Human hair contains elements that are very beneficial for plants, especially in improving soil quality. Ceratins contained in the hair help improve soil structure, increase water retention, and provide the nutrients plants need to grow. When added to the soil, the hair will slowly decay and provide long-term benefits, especially in maintaining soil moisture.

Oky Andries as Chief Marketing Officer of Chief Barber & Supply Co said hair cut waste can be a big problem. Every day, many haircuts end up at the final disposal site (TPA).

This was expressed at the KARMA Project press conference - Future Hair Creation.

"Every day, haircuts produce quite a lot of garbage, about 10 to 15 grams per person, and more for women because of their hair length," said Oky, when met in the Radio Dalam area, South Jakarta on Friday, February 21.

In a month, the amount can reach 1 kg of hair that is wasted. Unfortunately, this wasted hair waste usually ends up in the TPA, even though this waste can have serious environmental impacts.

"Human hair comes from body parts that are safe for the environment, but instead ends up at the disposal site producing methane gas, which is more dangerous than pollution from cars and motorbikes," he said.

According to Oky, hair can produce temperatures 25 times hotter than methane gas, which has an impact on global warming. To overcome this problem, Chief Barber & Supply Co launched KRAMA (Future Hair Creation) a movement to process hair waste into Eco Hairtilizer organic fertilizer.

Chief Barber & Supply Co collects hair and is given to the Kumpulin team so that the hairs are processed into natural fertilizers. By collecting hair that is usually wasted, they try to provide a more environmentally friendly solution. The Kumpulin team then coordinated with Mitra Bandotan Farm in Semarang, Central Java to process it into Eco Hairtilizer fertilizer.

"We start the initiative and open the view that business and brand customers must be responsible for the hair and eye sources of our search," said Oky.

Through this program, the collected hair is then processed into natural fertilizer which can be used to fertilize the soil.

"The hair we receive will be washed first, then dried and ground. After that, the fermentation process is carried out to turn it into a safe and effective fertilizer." explained Annisa Natamiharja, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Kumpulin.

At an affordable price, Eco Hairtilizer is sold at a price of Rp. 8,000, cheaper than ordinary fertilizers that sell for Rp. 15,000. This initiative not only provides benefits for plants, but also plays a role in reducing the amount of waste that enters the TPA, reducing the negative impact on the environment, and helping reduce the need for imported fertilizers.
