Newtopia Director Admits He Doubts BLACKPINK's Jisoo Acting

JAKARTA - The Korean drama Newtopia successfully aired its first two episodes on Friday, February 7, 2025, and stole the public's attention. This drama marked BLACKPINK's Jisoo comeback to acting, after the drama Snowdrop which was released in 2021.

Regarding Jisoo who was lined up as the main character in Newtopia, the director, Yoon Sung Hyun, admitted that he was worried about his acting skills. This doubt arose because Jisoo had been in a hiatus for a long time and focused on his musical activities.

At first I was worried because he (Jisoo) had been inactive (in the acting world) for a long time since Snowdrop. He is also not an actor who acts consistently, Yoon Sung Hyun, quoted from News18, on Sunday, February 9, 2025.

However, in the process, Jisoo was very dedicated and showed her seriousness in the drama Newtopia. The director's concerns eventually disappeared slowly.

"Jisoo gave me four days a week. So it's worried it's gone. When filming started, I thought he was really ready. It was a very difficult shooting, but he did really well," he said.

After the shooting process was over, Yoon Sung Hyun was even grateful to keep Jisoo involved in the drama. He praised Jisoo's excellent acting in acting as Kang Young Joo.

"I feel lucky to be working with actress Jisoo. She appears in episodes 1 and 2, but if you watch until episode 8, you will see that this character can only be played by her (Jisoo)," concluded the director.

Meanwhile, the drama Newtopia tells the story of Lee Jae Yoon (Park Jeong Min) who is currently serving in the military and LDR with his girlfriend Kang Young Joo (Jisoo). As they struggle to reunite, chaos occurs in the city with creepy zombie attacks.
