Romeo And Juliet Star Olivia Hussey Dies 73 Years Old

JAKARTA - British-Argentina-blooded actress Olivia Hussey was announced dead on Friday, December 27. The film star Romeo and Juliet died of cancer she had suffered since 2008.

This sad news was confirmed by director Marc Huestis who joined San Francisco CHronicle with Hussey. Olivia Hussey first had breast cancer in 2008 and underwent treatment.

However, in 2018, he was diagnosed with cancer again and is undergoing treatment to date.

"It is with sadness that we announce the death of Olivia Hussey Eisley in peace at home surrounded by loved ones on December 27," the actress said in a statement.

"Olivia is an extraordinary person with kindness, warmth, and comfort that touches everyone who knows her. Olivia lives life with love, pleasure, and dedication to art, spirituality, and kindness to animals," he continued.

Olivia Hussey starred in West End's production entitled The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Later, he was chosen as Julie in the film Romeo and Juliet directed by Franco Zeffirelli at the age of 15 years.

Thanks to the film, Hussey's name became known to the public and earned him a 1969 Golden Globe nomination.

In 2022, Hussey sued Paramount for exploiting those who were then minors. The lawsuit was rejected in 2023 for reasons of limited lawsuit period until they sued again this year and was rejected last October. The judge found the actors agreeing with the film.

"It's something I never agreed to. I just did it because I felt I couldn't say no," Olivia Hussey said in 2018.

Hussey also starred in a number of films such as All the Right Noises, The Summertime Killer, Black Christmas and Death on the Nile.

Leonard Whiting as the Romeo actor in the film made a tribute after the news of Hussey's death. He wrote a message after they struggled to sue the production house.

"Olivia, we share a lot of things since we are innocent children depending on life. You are never afraid to fix anything wrong in this world," Whiting wrote.

"Rest now my beautiful Juliet, there is no injustice that can touch you now. And the world will remember your beauty outside and forever," he said.

Olivia Hussey died at the age of 73 and left her husband, David Glen Eisley and three children: Alex, Max, and India and one grandson: Greyson.
