Cambodian Rice Becomes The Best Rice In The World For The Sixth Time

JAKARTA - Cambodian aromatic rice or rice was again named the "World's Best National" at the International World Rice Conference event in Manila, Philippines on November 7, 2024. This is the sixth time the country has won this prestigious international award.

Reported by VOI from The Phnom Penh Post page on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, this event was organized by the International Commodity Institute (ICI) and The Rice Trader (TRT) from the United States.

Lun Yeng, Secretary General of the Cambodian Rice Federation (CRF) said that this victory was an honor for the country and the Cambodian division sector as a whole.

Lun Yeng expressed this success thanks to the cooperation and joint efforts of all parties involved, from seed selection to maintenance and processing at the rice mill, which has helped Cambodian rice gain international recognition of its quality and taste.

He also added that the federation congratulated Cambodian farmers for their dedication to rice cultivation and thanked the rice millery for their efforts in processing and perfecting rice.

"The victory of the 'Best World Nation' award brings added pride to the Cambodian expansion sector. This award will facilitate our rice marketing, because we can better convey the quality of our rice to customers," he said.

According to the CRF, the 'Malis Angkor' brand represents high-quality premium aromatic rice which is believed to be the best rice from Cambodia.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Im Rachana, congratulated him via his personal social media accounts and noted that Cambodia previously won this award in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, and 2022.

Rachana also encouraged farmers to plant "Phka Rumduol" and "Sen Kraop" varieties known for their delicious taste, high market demand, and reputation for both regional and global levels.

The CRF report released on November 7 states that in the first 10 months of 2024, Cambodia exported 507,029 tons of rice to 66 destinations through 55 export companies, with a total revenue of around USD 376.63 million or IDR 5.9 trillion. In addition, the country also exports 4.036 billion tons of unhulled rice to neighboring countries.
