"This palace already has electricity before [the White Building]. But [its great] influence on the Hawaiian people should not be underestimated. Iolani Palace is a symbol of Hawaii as its own nation and where our last queen [Queen Lili "uokalani] was imprisoned after the overthrow of the monarchy in 1893." said Eates.

Visitors can walk through the first and second floors, which include the living room and bedroom, as well as Queen Lili'uokalani's Prison Room, where she was held under house arrest for nearly eight months after her administration was overthrown by the US.

Honolulu is famous for its city panorama and sea views over the Diamond Head Crater, but for the best view of eastern Honolulu that doesn't involve climbing anything, Nu'uanu Pali Lookout is the place.

"It's a great place for locals to go out of town to show visitors the east side of Oahu," Estes said of the observation point with spectacular views. Many locals have been visiting there since they were kids.

Located in the northeastern city of Honolulu, the site features stunning views of the Ko'olau Mountains and the east side often referred to as the direction of the Oahu wind and visitors must be prepared for strong winds.

Pali Lookout also has an epic but deadly history. In 1795, this now peaceful site served as a battleground where King, warrior and diplomat King Kamehameha I won the Battle of Nu'uanu, a victory that united Oahu and sent hundreds of soldiers straight from the 305m cliffs to their deaths.

Although the winding observation point and Nu'uanu Pali Drive provide stunning views of the city, the site is also the origin of some of the most troubling stories in Oahu, including the Legend of Hawaii'i's Night Marchers the ghosts of ancient Hawaiian fighters roaming the Oahu after dark and never looking into your eyes or you will face sudden deaths.
