French Actor Gerard Depardieu Charged With Raping Young Actress

JAKARTA - Actor Gerard Depardieu has been charged with rape and sexual harassment of a young actress.

This case was first reported to the police in August 2018. At that time, AFP reported on the verdict of this case since it was confirmed by the court.

The victim accused the 72-year-old man of raping her in Paris. Depardieu was said to have raped twice just a few days later.

The case against Depardieu was initially dropped in 2019 for lack of evidence, but reopened last year.

Launching MARCA, Wednesday, February 24, the actor was accused of this crime in December.

Depardieu's lawyer, Herve Temime, said that his client had denied the allegations.

Depardieu is best known for his performances in the film The Last Metro (1980) where he won the César Award for Best Actor and in Police (1985) when he won the Volpi Cup in the same category.

In the films Jean de Florette (1986) and Cyrano de Bergerac (1990) he also successfully won the Best Actor title at the Cannes Film Festival. Then, Best Actor at the Cesar Award and his first Academy Award nomination.

In the Hollywood industry, Depardieu took part in the films Ridley Scott's 1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992), Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet (1996), Randall Wallace's The Man in the Iron Mask (1998), and Ang Lee's Life of Pi (2012). The whole film is high budget.
