JAKARTA - Sara Wijayanto returns to playing horror with her latest film with Amanda Manopo and Aliando Syarief in the film entitled Indigo: What Do You See?. This film itself is a film produced by the Hitmaker Studio production house and directed by Rocky Soraya and was released on October 13.

In an exclusive interview with VOI, Sara Wijayanto tried to explain in depth about her role in the film Indigo. The wife of Demian Aditya gets the role of a mother of two children named Sekar who has extra abilities and is often referred to as an indigo person.

"I play the role of Mrs. Sekar here, Mrs. Sekar is a person who really has supranatural abilities and chose this path to help other people. Mrs. Sekar here is in her 50s I guess, and has two children. Basically, Mrs. Sekar here is a person who has abilities and chose this path to help other people who have mystical problems and she has two children," said Sara Wijayanto at the VOI Office, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, recently.

Even though in general this film tells the story of an indigo child, Sara said that this film was not inspired by her life story. In fact, Sara admitted that she was amazed by the research conducted by Rocky Soraya regarding the life of an indigo child, which according to her was very close to her life story.

“No, absolutely not. So, when I read it for the first time, when I was chatting with Mr. Rocky, I said 'wow, the research is really good', because I felt it really related to me and it was like someone had drawn a picture of the main character there, I also just now I feel like I want to draw again, I don't know why, it's like the feeling of wanting to draw has returned so I end up drawing again," said Sara.

"So, there are actually a lot of similarities, but behind the scenes there aren't any, but maybe for example there was a little discussion asking, for example, what rituals are needed? And how do you do it when performing a ritual? It's like light but there's a lot of discussion, how do you feel about doing the movements?" she continued.

Even so, Sara said that she still experienced difficulties in playing the role of Mrs. Sekar. The difficulty she felt was not when carrying out the scene during the filming process, but rather with the message that Mrs. Sekar wanted to convey to the audience regarding the human side of people with indigo abilities.

"There must be, every character played, there must be. I'm always excited but also nervous because how can I deliver what I want to deliver, because I'm afraid that later I don't want people to see Mrs. Sekar differently from her previous role," she added.

"So, actually, for example, many of my traits are like Mrs. Sekar, even though she has abilities, I show her that she is just an ordinary human being who has weaknesses, she has strengths and weaknesses, it's more like that, I want to show her human side, that she is a woman, no matter how strong a woman is, there are definitely times when she's sad too, more like that, but hopefully it reaches the audience," explained Sara.

Often playing in horror films and having roles that are not much different, Sara wants to try to give a different appearance to each character she plays, especially the character Mrs. Sekar who she plays in the Indigo movie.

"Yes, that's like I was differentiating from the previous film, in The Doll Series, I was Laras, a strong woman but she doesn't want other people to know what's wrong with her, the walls are too high, so Sekar is a strong woman too, but I want to show that side I said earlier, like I want to present Sekar as just a human being, we have our abilities but we also have strengths, we also have weaknesses, so, it's okay to cry, it's OK to be afraid but don't give up and find a way out, hopefully it will reach the audience," she explained.

So far, this 44 year old woman admits that she never gets bored of playing in horror films. Sara herself has no desire or thought about wanting to play in a film genre, let alone a horror film, currently she is just following the direction of the wind where her life will take her next.

"I'm not (bored) at all, when I first got this offer I was honest, I just read the script, I missed filming with Hitmaker, if I wanted to, then I read the script. So, I wanted to read the script first, because really the basis was because I missed Hitmaker, then when I started reading it was 'Oh my God, really cool and relatable', that's it until today, until the promo," she said.

"As long as I'm comfortable, I think I'll take horror, but we never know and I've never said, 'I don't want to do another film', I don't know where it will take me, I just go, follow what I've done before. I'm comfortable, so I'll do it," she explained.

Coming to Terms with Indigo's Abilities Since Childhood

Many people know that Sara Wijayanto has extra abilities related to mystical things or is commonly known as an indigo child. Sara explained that this ability had been passed down from generation to generation by her family, starting from her grandmother down to her.

“So, it's in the family, from my grandmother, down to my aunt, down to my mother, it's all a hereditary. Each of us has different abilities, there is my cousin who can do astral, more to astral thing, there are those who are given dreams, well my mother used to be a trance medium too, so what happened is, usually, because I am kejawen, at kliwon night or something, later a spirit will come to my mother, and then she will give a message. Well, back when my late grandfather was still around, he had a journal, he wrote, what came, what was the name, at what time, what's the message, it became a book, and that's all already happened, but the book is still at home," explained Sara.

The older sibling of actress Adinia Wirasti has felt that she has this extra ability since she was 8 years old. However, according to her, it is not an easy thing to have abilities that people in general do not have. She admits that she needs to take it slowly to get used to this ability.

In fact, Sara herself cannot deny that this extra ability can sometimes bother her. However, even though she is 44 years old, Sara is still trying to learn to control this hereditary ability.

"If I'm disturbed, of course, yes, what I mean is, as time goes by, I mean I'm learning how not to be disturbed and I think I'm going to live my life well. Because if not, I'll be tired, it's more to how they do not take my energy, so I can sleep well," she said.

"So we need awareness to continue learning and realize that this lesson will never end, so until I die I have to continue to align, because if not, if for example I lose, they will definitely control me because people who have that ability tend to be a magnet for those 'invisible' things," she continued.

However, Sara has experienced events that ordinary people might not experience, one of which was helping other people with exorcisms. On this occasion, Sara tried to tell about her experience, which she had to do remotely through a paranormal association that she joined.

"There were a lot of people who, at that time, I had the opportunity to actively help, so I joined a paranormal society so I helped with remote cleansing. Remote cleansing is like cleaning from a distance and most of the time the people who are helped are Americans via Skype, but this is not paid, so I did this for free and at that time it was like I had to learn to improve. At that time, quite a lot of people were helped and it wasn't just once, and it was from far away, so it took several sessions," she said.

"Yes, the person who was having a Skype session had been disturbed for years and it turned out that this was indeed demonic possession, so there was a demonic figure who had started to control him at the time I was chatting, this demon attacked me because he didn't like him to seek help, and finally I told him 'you need someone to help you directly'," explained Sara, closing the conversation with VOI.
