JAKARTA - Senior artist Dewi Yull is in the public spotlight after telling her about her first marriage to Ray Sahetapy. She revealed the story when she was a guest on Melaney Ricardo's YouTube channel.

As is well known, Dewi Yull married Ray Sahetapy in 1981. However, the two had to separate 23 years later. Dewi Yull officially divorced in 2004 and remarried to someone named Srikaton in 2008.

Dewi Yull said that her marriage to Ray Sahetapy had to face very tough obstacles at first. Religious differences made Dewi Yull's parents not give their daughters blessings to marry. At that time, Dewi Yull embraced Islam, while Ray Sahetapy was known to embrace Christianity.

"My mother gave birth (to Ray) before she died, but my father didn't approve, my big family didn't, for all reasons," said Dewi Yull, launching Melaney Ricardo's YouTube channel on Wednesday, July 26.

In fact, Dewi Yull said that at that time actually Ray Sahetapy had converted to Islam, but he did not tell his parents.

"At that time the father of the children (Ray Sahetapy) had a faith with me, but it should not be published to protect all," said Dewi Yull.

Furthermore, Dewi Yull talked about the end of her household with Ray Sahetapy. Many rumors say that the divorce of the two was because Dewi Yull refused to be polygamous.

Although he did not confirm the rumors directly, Dewi Yull was the reason for divorcing Ray Sahetapy at that time by likening someone who would sink if he stood on two boats at the same time.

"What is the strong reason (dividing)? Just want to make everyone happy, so that no one is injured, so that no one is confused, so that no one stands on two boats, because it will sink," he said.

Dewi Yull also gave a response about how she felt if Ray Sahetapy really had another partner at that time. He admitted that there was no problem if he divorced from Ray Sahetapy rather than having to be combined.

"It's okay (divorce because Ray already loves another woman). If it's for good, we don't know. Fate belongs to God," said Dewi Yull.
