JAKARTA - Humans always need space to share stories because their certificates are a social creature. In the digital era, many netizens used social media as a place to explain their heart or vent.

Head of the Information and Communication Technology Unit of the University of Dipa (UNDIPA) Makassar Erfan Hasmin gave an explanation of profit and loss of pouring out your heart or venting on social media. He advised the public not to vent excessively to prevent negative responses from others.

"Not everyone on social media will provide a solution as we expected. There are also those who will judge and provide a negative response," Erfan said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 11.

For some people, venting on social media is considered to be able to provide peace of mind over the problems that befell them. According to Erfan, getting a response or input from other people can make a person more calm, comfortable, and avoid stress.

However, too much in venting is also not good for this person. Overwhelmed on social media can cause negative responses from other people that can have an impact on the mental condition of the teller.

"Of course this will result in worsening things and damaging self-mentality," said Erfan.

Therefore, in order not to vent too much on social media or popularly known as oversharing, Erfan advised the public not to upload things on social media when emotions are unstable.

Unstable emotional conditions often make a person less alert. In addition, being more selective about what to upload on social media is the right step while rethinking whether the upload will harm yourself or others.

In order to avoid the bad effects of social media, ICT consultant Anwar Sadat gave a number of tips, including the intention to use social media properly accompanied by time discipline.

Furthermore, the public needs to make a priority scale in social media, filter the content they want to read, and ensure that the content is useful.
