JAKARTA - The cast of the WandaVision series revealed tips and interesting things they experienced during the work on the series that adopted the classic sitcom from the 1950s.
According to Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch), there are many things to learn. The actress who is familiarly called Lizzie said she and other actors had to take a "crash course" on sitcoms.
"Matt (Shakman, director) led us through a sitcom crash course. We also watched episodes of specific shows that we want to refer to in each decade," Olsen said at the global WandaVision press conference reported by Antara, Monday, January 11.
Olsen did not deny that the series that raised the characteristics of sitcoms from the '50s to the 2000s' made him have to quickly adapt to changes in vocals and physical behavior of the cast during that period.
"Seeing how actresses move on sitcoms from decade to decade shows the general public in that period wants to see how women behave, speak, so there is a book on the manner of each decade," she said.
"(Experience) This is very adrenaline-inducing, because there are many changes that are fast and sometimes confusing for me. (Classic sitcom) invites us to play with the audience, there is the fourth wall technique, and lots of physical comedy too," he added.
However, Olsen said he liked the gestures and visual effects produced to shape the image of each era in the series.
On the other hand, Olsen's co-star, actor Paul Bettany (Vision), revealed that he was surprised when he read the WandaVision script. He also said that he was inspired by the classic sitcom series The Dick Van Dyke Show which was popular in the 1960s.
"I was quite nervous when reading the script. I also took inspiration from Dick Van Dyke (for this series). Vision itself here is a decent creature, and is always there for Wanda," said Bettany.
"We practiced very thoroughly, and every crew member was wearing a (1950's) costume. Everyone really liked that ... I really liked it. I should have been in sitcoms all this time!" he joked.
Meanwhile, actress Kathryn Hahn, who plays a new character named Agnes, a neighbor of Wanda and Vision, said that sitcoms in each era have their own characteristics.
"I feel that sitcoms always reflect the comfortable and ideal views of the decade. From the setup, the 'misconceptions', the comedy, everything is a distinctive structure," said Hahn.
