Justin Bieber Sells 290 Song Titles Released Before December 31, 2021 To Almost Rp3 Trillion

JAKARTA - pop star Justin Bieber sold his record catalog and music publishing of US$200 million or almost equivalent to IDR 3 trillion covering all 290 song titles released before December 31, 2021 including Justice's album, to British music company Hipgnosis Songs Capital.

As reported by Antara from Billboard, Thursday, CEO and founder of Hipgnosis Songs Fund, Merck Mercuriadis said Bieber had had a very strong influence on global culture for fourteen years.

"At the age of 28, he was one of the few artists in the streaming era who had re-excited the music industry, forming a loyal fan base around the world, from a phenomenal teenager who later transformed into an important artist," Merck said.

He added that the asset acquisition process is the highest in history for the category of artists under the age of 74. Two other musicians who have sold their musical rights to Hipgnosis are Shakira and Justin Timberlake.

"Bieber has 82 million works with listeners every month and more than 30 billion streams just from Spotify. We are very happy he joins our family," added Merck.

This collaboration includes the copyright for the issuance of Bieber for a catalog containing 290 songs released before December 31, 2021, the artist's right to master recordings, and royalties.

Although Hipgnosis already has master record royalties, the copyright of master recordings remains held by Universal Music Group, including if Bieber makes songs in the future.
